A near perfect guide to running a golf benefit tournament

March 15th, 2010 Golfer1 No comments

I’ve just bought an ebook (just a normal book, that you download) by a Guy called Mike Mucci. Its basically a step by step guide to running a benefit golf tournament and I must admit, even I have learned a few things from this guide.. or at least its really opened my eyes to new forms of income from the tournaments that I run. There are a ton of ideas in here, ideas that will create a bigger buzz from the partners, I generally have found that the larger the buzz… the more partners come forward and the more that come forward the more you can charge (as the competition is larger.)
If you haven’t run a tournament before or are relatively new to it. Then Mike Mucci’s Guide is what you need. There are so many ideas in it, implementing just a few of them well greatly improve the profit and quality of the tournament. There are tons of planning secrets in there, which I would use as a reference guide. It comes with all the templates you will ever need, which in its self will save you a ton of time.

It comes in 8 parts (+ a Free CD)

  • Golf Tournament Planning Secrets Revealed
  • Interactive Workbook
  • The complete guide to Golf Games
  • Putting Games – Profit Building Strategies
  • Golf Handicap System
  • Six Little-Known Planning Secrets
  • Reducing Costs & Increasing Tournament Professionalism
  • Million Dollar Rolodex (All the best suppliers and support services)

It also has a money back guarantee (not that Ill be using it, as its well worth the cash)

A genually great guide to Running a Benefit Golf Tournament

Running a Profitable Golf Event – 3 Main Points

January 25th, 2010 Golfer1 No comments

When it comes to running a golf event, I personally think it breaks down into 3 main factors, all of which should be closely adhered to. In this post I will let you know what they are and then I will break them down further in a later post.

The 3 Big Secrets of Running a Successful Golf Tournament

  1. DELEGATION! – As I said in a previous post, I truly feel that those who delegate, find this whole process a lot easier. I know there will be many readers that think this is simply stating the obvious, but I cant really stress this point enough. Its not only about selecting a great committee its also giving them the tools they need, in order to successfully implement the parameters that you provide them.
  2. PARTNERS – A few years ago, this section would of been called Sponsors… But not anymore! I think sponsors are a thing of the past, and also somthing that can waste a lot of time when organising a golf event of this caliber. What many people used to do, for example, is let certain local business, sponsor a hole. Blow up a business card and stick in the ground, or perhaps put it on the flag.. The main problem here, in my opinion (Remember – We’re trying to maximize profit here) is that its the same as the rest of your competition is doing. The Key parts of a “Partnership” are
===>  Meaningful Specifics Demonstrating ROI, Not Vague Generalities
===>  Those Who Bring Qualified Customers To The Table Have The “Leverage”.
===>  An Extra Reason For The Partner To Choose Your Event Versus All Other Options

  3. MARKETING - This is where you can really stand out from the crowd and differentiate your event from the competition. If you can show a true “Return on Investment (ROI)” to your partners instead of doing what most golf tournament directors do, which is basically being satisfied with a hole sponsorship then your in for a win.

The true profit in Running a Benefit Golf Tournament comes directly from the Partners.

Running a Benefit Golf Tournament – Maximise Profit

January 25th, 2010 Golfer1 No comments

In my first year of Running a Benefit Golf Tournament I made a profit of around 15k and I doubled that in my second ever tournament. This wasn’t a fluke, it was mainly down to all the people I had around me. As i said in the about me section, I come from a family of golfers, my farther used to hand make clubs back in the day of persimmon headed woods, Ive got all manner of memorabilia from his days doing this, personal letters from Nick Faldo (who used them on tour) to mention just one.

When I organised my first benefit golf tournament, I had to start from scratch and it was not easy, but i’m not really expecting you to think it would be. The main thing you MUST be able to do is Delegate. Those who delegate Win! you cant organise something of this scale by yourself.

Many people that organise these kinds of events are strong minded, this isn’t a bad thing per say. It’s just a lot easier if you delegate and moderate. Im going to get into more detail in a later post, but i just want to stress how important delegation is, You need, or maybe already have a good committee that are all behind the idea, so use them! but make sure they are doing what you ask.
